Badges are earned by logging results to workouts on btwb. Workout badges are earned by logging scores to specific workouts. Lifts and Interval badges can come from any lifting or interval workout containing that specific movement and/or distance. Gymnastics badges can only be earned by logging scores to exact max effort gymnastics workouts. 

If a new badge has been earned, it will appear directly on a Workout Session screen after logging a result.
